One Voice for Public Policy: Marching for Life - More Important than Ever!
Once again January 22 approaches, reminding us of that infamous day in 1973 when the U.S. Supreme Court rendered its decision in Roe v. Wade. It was a decision which tore our nation apart as it falsely declared that some human beings are unworthy of life simply by virtue of their age. But, thanks be to God, that ruling was overturned in the Dobbs case.
But what does the date, January 22, signify today?
To be sure, it is a date to celebrate the Dobbs decision and the fact that in many places in our nation deaths from abortion have been dramatically lowered. But in other places, including Minnesota, that celebration has been severely muted as it has actually led to not only an increase in abortions (25% more), but also the wholesale repeal of many incremental protections for the unborn and their mothers that had been enacted in previous years. Indeed, there now exists the very real threat that the unrestricted abortion license that was passed into State law a year ago may actually be incorporated into the Minnesota State Constitution, as it was recently in Ohio. For us in Minnesota, these surely are sobering facts, but they are also motivating, as we resolve to do everything in our power to protect innocent human life.
That resolve takes many forms, of course, not the least of which is the March For Life event at the State Capitol at noon on Monday, January 22, 2024. Sponsored by Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL), this is our annual opportunity to loudly, clearly and visibly express both our opposition to abortion and our support for the sanctity of human life. This year, the march will be preceded by a worship service on the campus of Concordia University, St. Paul. It will begin at 10:30 am at Graebner Memorial Chapel and will conclude in time for people to make their way over to the Capitol in time for the noon march.
Now more than ever, it is important for the followers of Jesus to speak a clear word of life into our confused culture. I hope to see you there.
In Christ,
