Rev. Dr. David H. Petersen
A Method for Preaching in the 21st Century Derived from Lutheran Orthodoxy
The presentation will walk through the explicit method of Johann Gerhard and Walther for writing sermons and analyze some of the written sermons of Luther, Gerhard, and Walther for method. It will offer a concrete, practical method for writing quality sermons and overcoming writer's block.
Dr. David H. Petersen became Pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ft. Wayne, IN in 2000. He has earned a Master of Divinity degree, a Master of Sacred Theology, and a Doctor of Ministry from Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne. He and his wife, Jacqui, have three grown children and seven grandchildren. He is a regular guest on Issues, Etc, a contributing editor to Gottesdienst: The Journal of Lutheran Liturgy, where he writes both for the print journal and the blog, and occasionally writes for the Lutheran Witness. In 2023 he was elected to the Commission on Theology and Church Relations (CTCR).

Step 1: Conference Registration
Conference REGISTRATION indicates your attendance at the conference. All active pastors must complete the Conference Registration Form, regardless of attendance. All other pastors need to complete the registration form only if they plan on attending the conference.
Active pastors: This is a REQUIRED conference; all ACTIVE pastors are required to pay the registration fee, regardless of attendance. If you are unable to attend, please complete the Absentee Form in addition to the Conference Registration.
LCMS Bylaw 4.8.2.d.1
(d) All ordained and commissioned ministers on the district rosters are expected to attend meetings of their official conference or present a valid excuse.
(1) Attendance at the official conferences shall be obligatory for ordained and commissioned ministers serving in congregations and parishes.
The REGISTRATION FEE for ACTIVE PASTORS is $85. The registration fee is payable even if you are unable to attend. Online payment is accepted through PayPal. Those who are unable to use this platform should choose the pay by check option and bring a check to the conference or send it to:

Candidates, vicars, chaplains, and CSP pastors are not required to attend the conference; however, for those wishing to attend, the registration fee is $50. Please make your own lodging reservations.
Emeritus pastors are not required to attend the conference; however, if you choose to attend, the registration fee for emeritus pastors is compliments of the Minnesota South District. Please make your own lodging reservations.
Step 2: Lodging
Lodging is NOT INCLUDED in the registration cost. Please make your own hotel reservation. Be sure to mention MN South District Fall Pastors Conference to receive our reserved rate at either of the following hotels - please pay close attention to the reservation deadlines for the reduced rate!
You are responsible for making your own hotel reservations.
Step 3: Meals
Monday, October 7
Breakfast: Included with AmericInn or on your own
Lunch: Taco Bar provided at conference site
Dinner: Banquet at AmericInn Ballroom. If you will attend and/or bring a guest to the banquet, there is an additional cost of $35 for each banquet attendee. Please indicate your intention of attending the banquet and provide payment on the registration form.
Tuesday, October 8
Breakfast: Included with AmericInn or on your own
