As we near the end of August, our attention naturally shifts from the leisure activities of summer to the more structured activities of the Fall and beyond. Education is surely one of these.
No doubt you are aware of the great turmoil being experienced within the educational sphere.
“Protected in law and cared for in life” … with that simple phrasing, Father Richard John Neuhaus once articulated the ultimate goals of the pro-life movement. It seems to me that this is an articulation worth recalling as we try to grasp where we – those of us who support the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death - now stand in the light of the Supreme Court’s recent “Dobbs decision.”

As everyone in our sharply divided country knows, on Friday the Supreme Court of the United States struck down Roe v. Wade, which since January 22, 1973 had endorsed the taking of unborn life as a constitutional right. The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod has consistently and vigorously voiced its opposition to the Court’s infamous decision and we have continuously engaged in public and private efforts in support of pregnant women and their babies.
