Trinity First Mission Center - Strong in History and Prayer
By Kurtis Smith, Trinity First Mission Center
Nearly 160 years ago Trinity First Lutheran Church began as a Lutheran mission outreach to the Chippewa Indians near the village of Minneapolis, MN. Ferdinand Sievers, an unordained missionary originally from Michigan's Saginaw Valley (just like me!) was sent to listen to, to learn about and to love the people God already loved in this region that became the Twin Cities. God planted His Story early in this region.
The Word was here before our location became an urban center for mission in one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in the world. We might look different (I don't have a beard like Ferdinand Sievers) but that same Christian missionary and outreach heart continues to beat in our ministry today.
Let's thank God for our strong history through Trinity First Lutheran Church and School. Thank you for continuing that history by sending my family as missionaries here today. Thank you Minnesota South District, LINC-TC, churches and individuals for supporting and praying for God's mission with us!
For the last four years my family served with the World Mission Prayer League, most recently in Peru. Prayer was central to our time in that wonderful organization and is always central to God's mission. Communication with God is where you and I as missionaries begin: in prayer we build ministry on The Rock. Prayer will also be a key focus of the Mission Center here in Minneapolis.
If you are a person of prayer, please contact me as soon as possible. I'm looking for people who are willing to "prayer walk" the streets with me and/or commit to regular prayer for God's work here in the city. We'd love to have you on our prayer team as we build the foundation of this Mission Center!
In the Mission of Jesus With You,
